Grab this set of free sight word books to teach the sight word “at!”

I’ve been teaching my Five to read for almost a year now. It’s slow going for a number of reasons.
He needs a lot of review and reinforcement. He needs a slow pace. He is easily frustrated. He has five siblings – so I don’t get to this as often as I’d like!Today I’m sharing another set of free sight word books. These are my simple sight word readers – perfect for young learners!
I use my sight word books alongside the preschool reading curriculum, Reading the Alphabet.
We began with this simple maze. It was a great way to help him learn to recognize our new sight word, “at.”
I use my sight word books alongside the preschool reading curriculum, Reading the Alphabet. We began with this “book on a page.” I gave my Five a craft stick to use as a pointer and timed his reading with my iPhone.
What a great motivator that was! He loved listening to the recording when he was done.
I’m a big fan of these concepts of print pages from Reading the Alphabet. I cut out the words, told my Five the sentence, and watched him build it on the paper. Then he illustrated it.
We used the onset and rime cards from Reading the Alphabet to give my Five practice making and reading words.
When we did this activity, he was just starting to get the hang of blending words together.
I created this set of Bingo games to give him more practice reading short a words. He read each word and found it picture on the Bingo board. You can get the games for free here.
Finally, he practiced reading our newest set of books. You can see that the text is very simple – on purpose. The point of these books is to review sight words, build confidence, and teach kids to use multiple cues when figuring out unknown words (beginning letter, picture clue, etc.).
Of course, phonics knowledge is important, too! That’s why we supplement with our phonics readers. He had a lot of success with our short a word family readers.
How to assemble:

Print pages 2-9 front to back (page 1 is my Terms of Use). Print in color or grayscale. Cut across the horizontal center of each page. Insert one set of pages into the other, paying attention to the page numbers. Staple with a long-armed stapler.
